Adilabad District Expecting 52 Lakh Quintals of Cotton Arrivals During Kharif
Officials prepare app-based procurement and moisture checks to ensure farmers get MSP
Adilabad: Adilabad officials are expecting 52.07 lakh quintals of cotton to arrive at the Adilabad Market Yard as well as other markets during the 2026–27 Kharif season.
According to the Agriculture Department, cotton had been sown over 4,37,698 acres during Kharif season in Adilabad district. The productivity is expected to average 11.90 quintals per acre this season.
Cotton crop is yet to be harvested in most of the places.
Officials believe the moisture content in cotton crop may not pose a serious problem this season, because the weather had largely been dry during the season due to the El Nino effect, unlike last year. The weather forecast has also not forecast any foggy conditions in the coming months.
First priority in procurement will be given to farmers who book their slot on the Kapas Kisan App before bringing their cotton to the market yard. Allotment of slots will start seven days before the commencement of procurement.
There are a total of 102 Rythu Vedikas in Adilabad, Boath, Indravelli, Ichoda, and Jainad mandals in the district.
Moisture meters will be available with Agriculture extension officers. Farmers can check the moisture in the cotton at Rythu Vedikas before bringing it to the market yard.
Ahead of announcing the procurement, Adilabad collector Rajarshi Shah held a meeting on Tuesday with agriculture and marketing officials, apart from private ginning factory owners and Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) officials.
Respective market yard officials will tag farmers to the respective ginning mill for cotton sales through the app to avoid problems posed by middlemen and ensure that they get the minimum support price.
Cotton farmer Tudum Vinod of Chanda (T) said the prolonged dry spells have affected cotton crop cultivation in the red soils of Adilabad and Tamsi mandals. The cotton harvest is expected to be good in the black soils of Bela, Jainad, and some parts of Adilabad Rural mandals.
Those present at the meeting included superintendent of police Akhil Mahajan and Adilabad Market Committee chairman Srikanth Reddy, municipal chairman Anusha Bandari, district Agriculture officer Ravinder Singh, and CCI Adilabad branch manager Punitha, among others.
