HYDERABAD: Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy on Friday inspected the arrangements for a record-setting Bathukamma celebration to be held at Amberpet Municipal Ground. The event will feature a 72-feet-tall Bathukamma, billed as India’s largest, created with nearly 25 quintals of colourful flowers. Reddy said Batukamma in its floral structure will position as a new Guinness World Record, surpassing the existing 63.11-feet record set in Hyderabad in 2025.
Kishan Reddy said the celebrations, organised with the Devasena Devi Foundation and women entrepreneurs, would showcase Telangana’s cultural pride on a global platform. He said thousands of women representatives will participate, making the festival a celebration of tradition, women’s empowerment and community spirit. He invited people from Telangana, other Telugu-speaking states and abroad to witness the event live.
The programme will begin in the afternoon with taking part in rituals by 108 girls, followed by Maha Harathi. The main Bathukamma festivities, featuring folk songs and women’s dances, will continue in the evening. The Governor and Telangana’s First Lady are expected to participate as chief guests.
Kavya Kishan Reddy said the initiative, undertaken with Devi Foundation founder Dr. Neelima, aims to secure worldwide recognition for Bathukamma and the floral traditions of Telangana’s women. She urged families, particularly women and girls of Secunderabad constituency, to attend in large numbers and make the event a success.
