6 Family Members Rescued from Floods in Adilabad

Hyderabad: Six members of a family, including three women and a boy, who were trapped in floodwater at Seetagondi village in Gudihatnur mandal on National Highway-44, were rescued by Adilabad police with the support of the District Disaster Response Force (DDRF) on Saturday morning.

Waist-deep water from a nearby canal had entered the house of Gaikwad Ganesh at around 11.30 am, forcing the family to raise an alarm. Villagers alerted the district administration, following which collector Rajarshi Shah and SP Akhil Mahajan rushed to the spot with DDRF personnel.

After assessing the situation, the DDRF team, along with the police, reached Ganesh’s house. A rope was tied to the structure to facilitate the operation and each member of the family was rescued one after the other. Initially frightened by the rising waters, it took some persuasion to make the family agree for the rescue operation. Despite heavy rain, the DDRF team completed the rescue, and the police shifted the family to a relative’s house in Adilabad town.

According to officials, the district recorded 191.2 mm of rainfall between 8.30 am and 1.30 pm on Saturday, compared to an average of 106.2 mm. Tamsi mandal registered the highest rainfall at 170.4 mm, followed by 152.2 mm in Talamadugu, 144.2 mm in Sirikonda and 140 mm in Gudihatnur. The administration has been placed on high alert as heavy rains continued across the district.
