451 Vehicles Fined in Modified Silencer Drive, Rs 6.14 Lakh Collected

The Malkajgiri traffic police booked 451 cases against vehicles fitted with modified silencers during a special drive across the commissionerate on Wednesday, police said.

Hyderabad:The Malkajgiri traffic police booked 451 cases against vehicles fitted with modified silencers during a special drive across the commissionerate on Wednesday, police said.

The drive was conducted on the instructions of Malkajgiri Commissioner of Police B. Sumathi and supervised by DCP Traffic-I Rahul Reddy. Enforcement teams were deployed at major junctions and busy road stretches.

By 8 pm, police had booked 451 cases for noise pollution and removed 76 modified silencers from offending vehicles. Fines amounting to Rs 6.14 lakh were collected. Police said action was taken under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules and the Motor Vehicles Act.

Zone-I recorded the highest number of cases, with 295 violations and Rs 4 lakh collected in fines. Trimulgherry traffic police station recorded 76 cases, the highest in the zone, while Begumpet recorded 74 cases and the highest fine collection by a single station at Rs 1.03 lakh.

In Zone-II, 156 cases were booked and Rs 2.14 lakh was collected in fines. Vanasthalipuram traffic police station recorded 40 cases and removed 29 modified silencers, the highest number of silencers removed by any station.

Police said unauthorised silencers cause inconvenience and may affect children, patients and senior citizens. Vehicle owners were advised to use only standard silencers prescribed by law. The department said similar drives would continue to reduce noise pollution and maintain road discipline.
