ADILABAD: Irrigation officials lifted 38 gates of the Sriram Sagar Project (SRSP) on Monday to discharge floodwater downstream, following heavy inflows from upstream areas in Maharashtra.

According to sources, officials released 1,61,867 cusecs of floodwater while the project received inflows of 1,25,400 cusecs.

The project’s full storage capacity is 80.5 TMC ft, with current storage at 74.425 TMC ft. The water level stood at 1,089.3 feet, just short of its full reservoir level of 1,091 feet.

Authorities have alerted residents of downstream villages and those living along the banks of the Godavari river, urging them to remain indoors. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the river as the Godavari, along with several streams, rivulets, and tanks, is flowing at dangerously high levels.

The discharged water is also flowing into Varadakaluva (IFFC), Kakatiya Kaluva, and Mission Bhagiratha. Irrigation officials are closely monitoring the flood situation and coordinating with their counterparts in Maharashtra, where heavy rains over the past three days have increased upstream inflows.
