Hyderabad: Nearly 1 lakh Christians turned out across the twin cities on Holy Saturday for the annual “Run for Jesus”, staging 34 simultaneous processions ahead of Easter Sunday.
The largest gathering assembled at St Mary’s Basilica, Secunderabad, where Cardinal Poola Anthony flagged off the march to St George’s Grammar School in Abids. Participants proceeded on foot, motorcycles and cars — singing hymns and waving flags. The event was held in the pre-dawn hours to avoid traffic disruption.
“I’ve never seen such a massive congregation of believers,” said Lorna Mithra, visiting from Tampa, Florida. “It was a truly marvellous sight.” Closer home, Attapur resident Priya Parker, marking her sixth rally, praised the event’s atmosphere. “The constant praising of God makes the entire route come alive,” she said.
The day concluded at St George’s with musical performances and messages from church leaders. Founder Paul Devapriyam Pulla noted that careful coordination with city authorities and complete permissions have helped the rally grow in size and spirit each year. “Our aim is a peaceful, prayer-filled celebration — and that’s exactly what we delivered today,” he said.
