Karimnagar: A second-year LLB student at the Satavahana University law college in the district in Telangana, was found dead in her hostel room on Sunday evening, in what police are treating as a suspected suicide. It is reportedly the first such incident on the university campus.
The deceased has been identified as Dekkali Chandrakala (30), a native of Farooqnagar in Shadnagar, Ranga Reddy district. She was staying in the university hostel and also preparing for competitive exams.
According to fellow hostel residents and police, Chandrakala had not come out of her room for some time. When students in the adjoining room knocked and got no response, they alerted university officials. Security staff broke open the door and found her unresponsive.
Kothapalli Circle Inspector Koteshwar reached the spot and shifted the body to the government hospital. Registrar P. Satish Kumar rushed to the hostel on hearing the news, called for a thorough inquiry and assured the police of full cooperation. The police searched the room and seized a mobile phone and a courier box.
Police are examining reports that an unidentified person phoned students in the neighbouring room and alerted them, which prompted them to knock on her door. Investigators are trying to establish who that person was and whether Chandrakala was on a call with them at the time. Police said the full facts will be known only after the investigation.
