3 RMPs Arrested for Illegal Sex Determination Tests
Police said two others, Vallapu Prashanth of Solipet and Kathi Kanakala Reddy of Nalgonda, were absconding.
Nalgonda:Nakrekal police on Wednesday busted an organised racket allegedly conducting sex determination tests in Nalgonda district and arrested three Registered Medical Practitioners, police said.
The arrested were identified as Bathuka Yadagiri, 47, of Shivaji Nagar in Nakrekal, Jala Janaiah, 53, of Tekumatla in Suryapet district and Jilugula Bharath, 36, of Kesaram in Suryapet district. Police said two others, Vallapu Prashanth of Solipet and Kathi Kanakala Reddy of Nalgonda, were absconding.
Nalgonda DSP K. Shivaram Reddy said police seized an SIUI Plus CTS-7700 digital ultrasound imaging system, a power cord and ultrasound gel from the accused. Police and health department officials jointly cracked the racket, he said.
Police said Yadagiri had formed a network with RMPs who brought pregnant women for sex determination tests. He had earlier been arrested twice for allegedly conducting such tests for money but continued the practice after securing bail, police said.
Police and health department officials raided a house in Shivaji Nagar and found the mini ultrasound scanning machine allegedly used for the tests.
Nakrekal police registered cases against five persons under provisions of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act and the Indian Medical Council Act.
