Karimnagar: Police on Monday arrested three people for luring and extorting money from young men under the pretext of offering massage services through a dating app in Karimnagar Rural Mandal.

According to police, the accused were identified as Mustafa alias Imran, Mohammad Ameer, and S.K. Shabuddin alias Sadab, all residents of Vijaynagar within the Karimnagar Rural Police Station limits.

The victim, a degree student from Nizamabad, was residing in an SC hostel in Karimnagar. He had started offering massages for men via a dating app. On July 4, he got a request for a spa massage through the app and went to meet the client near an FM radio station along the Karimnagar–Peddapalli road. While he was discussing the service, two other men appeared and began threatening him.

Out of fear, Nagesh transferred Rs 15,000 via PhonePe, handed over Rs 2,000 in cash, and gave them his wristwatch. The culprits fled the scene soon after. Disturbed by the incident, he remained inside his hostel for two days before filing a complaint with Karimnagar Rural Police on July 6.

Following the complaint, police launched an investigation and, using details from the PhonePe transaction, tracked down the three accused. Police recovered three mobile phones and Rs 14,000 in cash from their possession. An extortion case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
