263-acre Kamareddy College Land Dispute Sparks Congress–BJP Clash

A senior leader said a comprehensive state-level inquiry would bring clarity on the ownership and use of the land.

Nizamabad: BJP Kamareddy MLA K. Venkataramana Reddy said he would meet district collector Ashish Sangwan on Monday over the ongoing controversy surrounding 263 acres of government college land in the town. The at 11 am, and follows a series of complaints and counter-complaints and clashes between the BJP and the Congress.

The NSUI, which is protesting the alleged land grab, welcomed the MLA’s decision to approach the district administration. NSUI district president Ireni Sandeep said the organisation was prepared to participate in the discussions and claimed to have evidence regarding encroachment of college lands. He said the issue should be resolved through administrative means rather than political confrontation.
The Congress and its frontal organisations have accused the BJP MLA’s family of encroaching on the college land. Congress, Youth Congress and NSUI activists have staged protests in Kamareddy, demanding removal of alleged encroachments.
On Saturday, former sarpanch Giri Reddy Mahender Reddy, along with Congress workers, allegedly drove past police barricades towards the MLA’s camp office, leading to clashes between Congress and BJP activists. Mahender Reddy’s car was reportedly damaged and overturned. Police intervened and detained him.
The disputed land was allotted nearly three decades ago for public and educational institutions, including Gunj Sangham Junior College, the old Collectorate and residential educational institutions. Some portions were later occupied for educational purposes. Katipally Raja Reddy, father of MLA Venkataramana Reddy, played a role in promoting educational institutions in the town.
Government adviser Mohammad Ali Shabbir and former MLA Gampa Govardhan raised the issue of alleged encroachment, and Venkataramana Reddy, denying the allegations. said his family contributed to higher education in Kamareddy and declared that he would resign if encroachment was proved.
Former district collector Satyanarayana also expressed interest in clarifying the issue. A senior leader said a comprehensive state-level inquiry would bring clarity on the ownership and use of the land.
