Hyderabad: A 22-year-old woman from Kharkhana died following complications during an attempted abortion, Jawaharnagar police said on Saturday. Inspector Saiadaih said the woman, who was in a relationship, discovered she was four months pregnant. As both families were unaware and were separately searching for marriage alliances, the couple decided to terminate the pregnancy without informing them.

They told their parents they were going on a trip to Srisailam, but instead purchased abortion tablets, which the woman consumed. Soon after, her blood pressure dropped and she began bleeding heavily. On Friday, she sought help at a private hospital in Balaji Nagar, where she was admitted and given treatment, but the bleeding did not stop.

The next day, her condition worsened with severe pain. Doctors administered further medication and carried out the abortion in the afternoon. Her condition deteriorated soon after; she lost consciousness and failed to respond to CPR. She was declared dead later in the day.

Police were informed, and the body was shifted to Gandhi Hospital for a postmortem. A case under BNS Section 194 was registered at Jawaharnagar police station. The officer said the probe would not only examine the hospital’s role but also trace the source of the abortion tablets sold to the couple. Police are recording statements of the woman’s partner and family members, and further action will follow based on the postmortem report and evidence collected.
