22 Of 23 Students Injured In MVSR Mishap Discharged
Akshara, who suffered a spinal cord injury, is the only student still hospitalised after the truss collapse during a dandiya event at MVSR Engineering College on October 17.
Hyderabad: Three more students injured in the truss collapse during a dandiya event at MVSR Engineering College on October 17 were discharged from hospital on Wednesday, including Shravya, who had been treated in the intensive care unit (ICU).
This takes the total number of students discharged to 22, with Akshara, who suffered a spinal cord injury, the only student still hospitalised.
Of the 23 female students injured in the incident, 13 were discharged the day after the accident, six in the following days and three on Wednesday.
Among those discharged on Wednesday was Meena, who sustained head injuries requiring stitches.
Her sister Sona died of injuries suffered in the incident, but the family has not yet informed Meena of her death.
Their father, Ashok Narayanadas, said the family was concerned about how Meena would cope with the news.
"We need to prepare her for the loss of her sister.
They had been together since childhood and were very close.
One had secured a seat at Geetanjali, but did not want to go without her sister.
In the final round, we tried again and secured seats for both at MVSR College.
They were happy to join," he said.
Ashok said the family would allow Meena to decide whether she wanted to continue her studies.
He said the college management had paid the family ₹50 lakh following Sona's death.
Shravya, who suffered a spinal injury and required treatment in the ICU, was returning to her hometown after being discharged.
Her father, Ramaswamy R., said doctors had advised her to take bed rest for two months and avoid turning to either side.
The family has purchased a special bed for ₹9,000 to help with her care.
"We want the college management to reimburse the expenses to take care of her at home or in future and ensure proper care for our daughter.
Her condition is serious, and she needs appropriate treatment and support to recover and return to her studies," he said.
The third student discharged on Wednesday had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Secunderabad.
Akshara continues to receive treatment for her spinal cord injury.
