Mahabubabad: Police have registered cases under the POCSO Act against two minor boys for allegedly sexually assaulting two minor girls in separate tribal villages in Bayyaram mandal of Mahabubabad district.

According to police, the boys allegedly sexually assaulted them on multiple occasions. Medical examinations confirmed that both girls were pregnant, Bayyaram SI Prashanth said on Thursday.

Acting on information received from district ICDS supervisor K. Vijaya a week ago, child welfare officials visited the villages and conducted an inquiry. The girls were subsequently taken for medical examinations, which confirmed their pregnancies. The ICDS official lodged a complaint on Wednesday, based on which cases were registered, the SI said.

District ICDS officials shifted the girls to child protection centres, where they are being kept under supervision, SI Prashanth said.

He said it was unfortunate that such an incident had occurred despite police conducting Kalajatha programmes in tribal villages to create awareness about atrocities against women and girls.
