Nalgonda: A woman allegedly gave rodenticide to her two sons and then attempted to die by suicide at Gandhi Nagar in Khammam following differences with her husband, police said on Sunday.
The children, identified as Bobbala Vedic, 7, and Thanush, 5, died while undergoing treatment at a hospital on Sunday morning. Their mother, Swathi, remained in critical condition.
According to police, Swathi administered rodenticide to the children before consuming it herself on Saturday night. Neighbours who noticed the incident shifted the three to a hospital for treatment. Vedic and Thanush died during treatment, police said.
Police said Swathi and her husband, Lingaraju, had been facing marital differences. The couple, along with their two sons, had been living in a rented house on Pumping Well Road in Gandhi Nagar for the past two years. The dispute reportedly intensified after Lingaraju proposed shifting the family back to his native village of Gurralapadu. He works at a mobile phone shop in Khammam.
Swathi is a native of Narsimhapuram in Chinthakani mandal, while Lingaraju belongs to Gurralapadu in Yedulapuram. The couple married about nine years ago and initially lived in Gurralapadu before moving to Khammam.
Police registered a case and launched an investigation.
