Hyderabad:The CBI Court sentenced two Hyderabad Postal Assistants to undergo two years RI and imposed a fine of Rs. 65,000 each after they were found guilty for misappropriating Rs. 27.27 lakh during demonetization period.

A press release issued by CBI stated that acused Adapa Srinivas, the then Postal Assistant (Treasurer) and U. Rajyalakshmi, the then Postal Assistant, of Humayun Nagar Sub-Post Office Hyderabad, were sentenced to undego imprisonment for misappropriation.

It was alleged that A. Srinivas, Treasurer and U. Rajya Lakshmi, Postal Assistant entered into a criminal conspiracy between November 10 2016 and November 24at the time of demonetization of old currency notes and in pursuance of the same, they fraudulently exchanged withdrawn old series (WOS) of Rs.500 and Rs.1000 denomination currency notes with new currency notes worth Rs. 27,27,397 without receiving required annexure-Il forms and falsified the records to cover up the misappropriation.

On completion of the investigation, CBI filed the charge sheet after the trial convicted and sentenced the accused persons accordingly, a release further stated.
