2 Held At Secunderabad Railway Station For Smuggling Ganja To Maharashtra

Hyderabad: A joint surprise operation carried by Secunderabad Railway Police (GRP), Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGANB) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) resulted in the arrest of two persons at Secunderabad railway station for smuggling dry ganja from Visakhapatnam to Manmad of Maharashtra by train.

The arrested have been identified as Mubeen Ahmed Raheem Khan (51) and Nafees Afsar Khan Pathan (22), both natives of Maharashtra. One more accused Atiq of Maharashtra was absconding, the police said.

The police said the three accused were friends and belong to Maharashtra. Raheem Khan and Pathan were into sarees hand work designing work. They were also selling sarees in various cities like Pune, Mumbai, Chennai and Visakhapatnam, etc., by train.

Two months ago, Atiq offered Raheem Khan Rs.5,000 to transport ganja from Visakhapatnam to Manmad. Following Atiq’s directions, a month ago, Raheem Khan transported ganja twice from Visakhapatnam to Manmad and earned Rs.5,000 for each trip.

As usual two days ago, Atiq again asked Raheem Khan to transport ganja. Due to heavy police checking in trains, Raheem Khan decided to take the assistance of someone and explained the process to Pathan and offered him Rs.2,000 to transport ganja from Visakhapatnam to Manmad.

On Tuesday, both Raheem Khan and Pathan came to Visakhapatnam railway station where they got a blue-colored trolley suitcase containing ganja from a masked person who left without disclosing his name. Upon checking the suitcase, they found nine packets of ganja inside.

Later, the duo boarded Nagawali express with general tickets along with ganja. During the journey, they noticed heavy police checking in trains at Kazipet railway station and escaped tactically from the station. They reached Hyderabad by bus and came to Secunderabad railway station to go to Manmad.

By that time, the train to Manmad had already departed. Upon inquiring at the enquiry counter, they were informed that another train to Manmad was scheduled to depart from Charlapalli at 3.30 pm. While they were leaving the railway station through the waiting hall, the police apprehended them.

Upon questioning, they voluntarily confessed that they were in possession of 18.869 kgs of ganja worth Rs.9.43 lakh. The police seized two mobile phones from their possession.
