HYDERABAD: Two unidentified men snatched a gold chain weighing nine tolas from an 80-year-old woman residing in Hari Hanth Sadan apartment in Lalaguda on Wednesday morning. Victim Bala Rukmini was alone in the house, after her son Naresh went to workplace.

Around 9.30 am, two men wearing caps barged into the Flat No. 301, threatened the elderly woman and snatched the gold chain from her.

The incident was known when she told her son Naresh, who returned home, thereafter the police were informed about the incident.

A team of police officials visited the crime spot and obtained details from the woman. She was scared after the incident. Detective inspector N. Ramakrishna said the two men entered the apartment premises when the security guard had gone to the first floor to attend some work at a flat owner’s house, while his wife was out to purchase vegetables.

After confirming that there was no one manning the main gate of the apartment, the duo barged into the flat 301 and committed the offence. The CCTV cameras installed in the apartment building captured the images of the accused. “As both were wearing caps, we could not identify them properly,” he said.

Before committing the crime, the duo was seen speaking over phone outside the apartment gate. They might have come to the apartment premises in an autorickshaw. Going straightaway to the flat 301, hinted that the accused were familiar with the apartment building, police said.

After the incident, the police started scouting the areas, including the bus stations and Secunderabad railway station, to track down the accused.
