Hyderabad: Seventeen CPI (Maoist) cadres of various ranks surrendered before the Bhadradri Kothagudem district Superintendent of Police B Rohit Raju on Friday.

The cadres surrendered only after leaving the violence path of naxalism and led a peaceful life with their family members. Those surrendered include two Area Committee Members (ACMs), four party members (PMs) and militia cadres.

The cadres also came to know about the welfare measures being taken up for the surrendered Maoists and also development of welfare schemes for tribals under "Operation Cheyutha" programme by Bhadradri Kothagudem police.

This year so far, as many as 282 Maoists of various cadres including one Division Committee Member (DVCM), 13 ACMs and Peoples Political Committee (PPCMs) members, 32 Party Members, 105 militia members, 33 Revolutionary People's Committee (RPC) members, 47 Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Mazdoor Sangthan (DAKMS) and Krantikari Adivasi Mahila Sangathan (KAMS) members, 30 Chetna Natya Manch (CNM) members and 21 Gram Raksha Dal (GRD) members surrendered before the district police after getting attracted by various schemes and programs being conducted by the district police.

At present, CPI (Maoist) cadres are moving in the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border areas. These border villagers should not extend cooperation to CPI (Maoist) cadres at any cost, the SP said, adding that if villagers notice any Maoist movement in their areas, they should inform immediately to nearest police stations or higher officers.

Recently, the Mulugu district police got such information through villagers and arrested 20 CPI (Maoist) cadres and seized 12 weapons.

On behalf of Telangana government, the Bhadradri Kothagudem police have been giving a suitable reward to CРІ (Maoist) surrendered cadres, who are joining into mainstream voluntarily. Cadres who are surrendered from Chhattisgarh will also get necessary long-term rehabilitation from Telangana police by collaborating with Chhattisgarh police.

The Maoists cannot escape from Telangana police if they enter Telangana territory, and also Telangana areas will not be sheltered by them. An example of recent encounters occurring at various places including Karreguttalu in Telangana led to the death of 31 cadres.

“The people here are very conscious and they do not believe outdated and impractical ideologies. We appeal to cadres to voluntarily surrender and join mainstream and lead a peaceful life with their family members. We will always ensure all kinds of benefits available for the livelihood and rehabilitation of the surrendered cadres,” he added.
