15th Century Inscription Found in Nallamala Forest

Hyderabad:A historical inscription, believed to date to 1404 CE (common era), belonging to the period of ruler Tripuraraju, has been found near the ruins of a Shiva temple deep inside the Nallamala forest within the limits of Udimella in Padara mandal of Nagarkurnool district.
The inscription was noticed by Karthik Pothuboyina of Vijayawada, a member of the Vedadri Nallagorla Trekking Team, which explores temples, inscriptions and historical sites in the Nallamala region.
According to the reading of the inscription, Tripuraraju was the son of Mahamandalesvara Mallidevaraju, who is described as belonging to the Hariti gotra and the lineage of Madhavavarma. The inscription contains an eulogy describing Mallidevaraju as the ruler of Maninagapura and referring to his possession of thousands of elephants and cavalry.
Though the inscription mentions the Saka year as 1990, researchers have found the year to be incorrect. The other chronological details — the Tarana year, Paushya Suddha Dasami, Friday and Uttarayana Sankramana — correspond to December 14, 1404.
The inscription records a donation made to Udumisvara Deva of Udumidla for incense, lamps and food offerings (naivedya). A donation to Visalakshi Jiyyelu Deva is also mentioned.
The inscription is significant as another inscription containing a similar eulogy and mentioning Mallidevaraju has been found earlier at the Ramalingeswara Swamy hill in Amanagallu, Tipparti mandal of Nalgonda district.
