HYDERABAD: The government has introduced pre-primary sections in 1,362 government schools from the 2025–26 academic year, with the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) preparing new curricular material for children aged four to five years to support early childhood care and education.

The material includes a teacher’s handbook and student workbooks I and II, prepared in line with the National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage 2022, NCERT guidelines and Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) goals.

The handbook provides preschool teachers with classroom activity plans using stories, rhymes, games, conversations, art, music, movement and play-based learning. SCERT said the activities were designed to meet developmental needs and encourage classroom participation.

Student workbooks feature activity-based exercises focused on literacy, numeracy, creativity, observation, communication and fine motor skills, with colour illustrations and child-friendly tasks. Local context, culture, environmental awareness, health, hygiene and social interaction have also been incorporated to make lessons relatable.

SCERT added that observation-based assessment practices and activity checklists have been included to help teachers monitor developmental progress in classrooms.
