Corruption Charge Against TVK Govt on Advocate Appointment

TIRUNELVELI: The TVK government has come under fresh scrutiny over the appointment of government advocates, with Tirunelveli-based advocate Abdul Jabbar alleging that money was demanded from him for the post of additional public prosecutor (APP) at the Tirunelveli district principal sub-court.
Jabbar, a TMJK district functionary and resident of Palayamkottai, had worked for the TVK during the Assembly election as an alliance party, with its president K.M. Shareef contesting the election on a TVK ticket.
After the TVK formed the government, Jabbar was appointed APP at the Tirunelveli district principal sub court, reportedly on the recommendation of TVK Tirunelveli central district secretary Maria John.
Jabbar assumed charge and attended court for a few days. However, he has alleged that Maria John later asked him not to attend court until the government order confirming his appointment was issued.
When the order was issued, Jabbar’s name was omitted and Ramesh was appointed to the post.
Following this, Jabbar alleged in a series of Facebook posts that money was demanded from him for the post and that he faced religious discrimination. His allegations have given fresh traction to Opposition parties’ earlier charges that money was being demanded in connection with the appointment of government advocates under the TVK government.
