Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay. (DC)

Chennai: Visiting ‘Paamani Illam’ the government bungalow inside the Podhigai campus in Greenways Road, which is being renovated for conversion as the Chief Minister’s official residence and camp office soon, Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay gave instructions to those working there on Thursday in preparation for his moving into the building.

Vijay is shifting his residence to Greenways Road, the enclave where most houses of Ministers and many government buildings like institutions and guest houses are located besides quarters of High Court judges, as his present daily commute from his house in Neelankarai to the Secretariat is taking a long time.

Since the Chief Minister’s daily travel is also inconveniencing the common people due to the security drills, Vijay chose Paamani Illam as his official residence from where he could reach the Secretariat in about 15 minutes by causing less traffic disruptions.

The 5000 square feet bungalow is being renovated by the PWD and the renovated structure will be equipped with meeting rooms for official discussions with Ministers and officers, waiting area and space to receive dignitaries and guests.

During his inspection of the building, the Chief Minister also made use of the facilities in Paamani Illam to discharge his duties.

Hitherto, Vijay has been using the facilities in the Secretariat for discharging his duties and has also been using his residence at a multi-storied building at Foreshore Estate.

His office in the Secretariat will be soon shifted from the main historic Fort St George structure to the 10th floor of the Namakkal Kavignar Maligai.

Meanwhile, the authorities removed a cut out of Vijay and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Reddy erected on the roadside by the organisers of a grand wedding ceremony at a hotel in MRC Nagar.
