Will Be With You Soon: Thalapathy Vijay

TVK founder says his presence could create “unusual situation,” challenges CM Stalin to act against him, not party colleagues

Days after a Karur rally stampede left 41 dead, actor and TVK founder Vijay said he avoided visiting affected families to prevent unrest and indicated he is ready to face any action.

Chennai: Vowing to carry on with his political journey with more vigour and courage in future, president of the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam, Vijay, wanted to know why the untoward incident – the stampede that killed 41 people and sent over 100 others to hospital on Saturday – should happen only in Karur when the campaign meetings in five other districts went on peacefully.

After keeping quiet for two days since the tragedy shook the nation, Vijay released a video message, running for 4 minutes and 45 seconds, saying that never in his life had he faced such a painful situation. He said the truth behind the incident would come out soon. The people had been watching everything and they knew the facts, he said

Delivering the message in a soft and somber voice, he told Chief Minister M K Stalin that he would be at home or office any time for him to take revenge if he desired and pleaded with him to not harass his party leaders and cadre, against whom FIRs and cases were being filed. Even social media activists commenting on the incident were not being spared by the police, he said.

Explaining to the people that he did not want to aggravate the situation on the ground after the stampede by visiting the victims and families of the deceased, he said that he would soon meet them all and wished those in hospital a speedy recovery.

Since people came to his campaign meetings in large numbers out of their love and affection for him, he felt indebted to them and had always been very particular that no compromise was made on providing security to them by still the incident had taken place, he regretted. Keeping political consideration apart, he had chosen only spots that would be safe for the people in consultation with the police, he said.

Thanking those political leaders who understood his pain and spoke for him, he said that he felt as though God had come down to speak for him when the people of Karur came out to speak the truth about the incident. The entire truth would be revealed soon, he said.

They were addressing people from the spot that was allotted to them for holding the meeting and they made no other mistake, he said, wondering why the police were cracking down on party functionaries and social media activists.
