Chennai: Making a farce of his maiden airport media rendezvous, founder of the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam and Tamil actor Vijay recited by rote a ‘message’ for his fans and followers in Madurai standing at the gates of the Chennai airport and walked away, without responding to queries, to board the waiting special flight on Thursday.

Though the media corps, particularly the microphone wielding television news channel representatives, always try to catch up with Vijay whenever he travelled out of Chennai but never succeeded in making him speak out, the news about his journey to Madurai sent them in packs to his house and also the airport on Thursday.

Since Vijay was dropped off at Gate Number 6 of the old airport – he had not obtained the requisite pass for his vehicle to enter the premises – the news personnel waiting for him and following him managed to put their microphones before him at the gate only to hear the recital of a message for his fans, followers and the public in Madurai.

He said he was conveying the message at Chennai itself because he was not sure of the conditions at the Madurai airport and assured his fans and followers that he would soon be meeting them on another occasion.

The message to those who had come to the Madurai airport and the common people was to refrain from riding dangerously in their motorbikes by following his vehicle or performing stunts on their motorbikes or riding without wearing helmets.

Such daredevil acts of the fans gave him the chills, he said, advising them not to do them. He said he was travelling to Madurai to take part in the shooting for his next film, ‘Jananayagan’ (Democrat), in Kodaikanal and would hence drive off from the airport.

Urging the fans and followers in Madurai to return home safely, Vijay conveyed his May Day greetings to all and walked off with a bag slung across his shoulders to board the airport vehicle that would have picked him up and taken him to the aircraft.

His advice, conveyed through the media, was however part of his message put out on X channel on Wednesday, in which he referred to ‘young comrades’ riding dangerously in their two-wheelers when his party had a meeting in Coimbatore three days ago.

In X, Vijay said that though he understood the love of the fans that prompted them to do dangerous stunts, they should avoid doing them.

Apart from ‘duty and dignity,' self-discipline was important in politics, he said, urging his followers not to take risks and endanger their lives and also set an example for others through their action because they were precious to him.
