Vellore DMK Councillor Arrested for Remarks Against Vijay
Saravanan’s remarks about the Chief Minister during the Karur stampede sparked outrage among TVK followers; cases filed against the former minister and MP over alleged obstruction of officials.
Vellore DMK councillor Saravanan was arrested for his remarks that the DMK government should have ‘finished’ Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay during the Karur stampede itself. His remarks triggered outrage among TVK followers on social media, who questioned whether there was a conspiracy to assault their leader if he had stayed in Karur on the day of the stampede.
The police also filed cases against former minister P.K. Sekar Babu and MP Kalanidhi Veerasamy, who were present when former school education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi was taken to the Greater Chennai Commissionerate. The two were accused of trying to prevent government servants from discharging their duties and of using abusive language against them.
When Poyyamozhi was brought to Puzhal prison, DMK supporters raised slogans against the government and tried to block police personnel. The DMK councillor was heard saying that the party should have ‘finished’ Joseph Vijay in Karur itself. The video went viral on social media, and the police registered a case against him. Saravanan was arrested and taken for investigation.
