Chennai: Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister P. Viswanathan said on Sunday that the government plans to use university buildings and college premises as shelter for people affected by floods. He also said NCC and NSS students would help people affected by the rains.
Addressing the media at the airport, the Minister said the government discussed the measures to provide food, milk and bread to the affected people using the NCC and NSS students. There are a total of 6,000 students and 250 coordinators taking part in the NCC and NSS from 40 to 50 colleges in the city. A meeting would be held at Madras University on October 23 to give suggestions for the NCC and NSS students on operating small boats and life-saving boats to help the people during the floods.
He said both the DMK and AIADMK had indulged in corruption and earned several crores, but there is no corruption in the present coalition government. The parties in the ruling coalition have the attitude to serve the people, he added. The DMK did not give power to Congress party members in the Assembly Corporations of the local governments. But the DMK is complaining about giving a power share for the Congress in the State government, he added.
