Udhay’s Charges Against CM, TVK Govt
Levelling allegations against the TVK government over the issue of mining contracts, Udhayanidhi Stalin said that he would soon release evidence to prove that Vishnu Reddy, Sujay Reddy and Anil Reddy were controlling government-linked mining operations.
Chennai: Accusing Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay of levelling unsubstantiated charges against the DMK in the Assembly, the Leader of the Opposition, Udhayanidhi Stalin on Monday said the Speaker J C D Prabhakar denied his party an opportunity to respond to those charges.
Addressing media persons after his party MLAs walked out en masse following the refusal of permission for the party to respond to the allegations, Udhayanidhi Stalin said that though the DMK had raised 15 questions demanding direct answers from the Chief Minister, he had, without answering their questions, levelled a series of charges against the DMK.
So, the DMK members repeatedly sought permission to reply to the Chief Minister’s charges but the Speaker, who initially agreed to allow him to speak after the Chief Minister completed his address, changed his decision after a note came to him, saying that he would not allow them to speak, Udhayanidhi said.
He said the DMK members waited until the Chief Minister completed his speech and staged the walkout only after the permission to respond to the allegations was denied by the Speaker, who acted in a partisan manner.
None of the questions raised by the DMK, particularly those concerning law and order and allegations against TVK members, were answered by the Chief Minister who was only resorting to cinematic-style punch dialogues and diversion tactics, he said.
The cinema dialogues and theatrical performance were merely meant for a ‘release’, he said criticising Vijay for his references to the Sarkaria Commission and pointing out that the charges of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against DMK leaders had not been proved and that no DMK leader had been convicted in connection with the corruption allegations cited by the Chief Minister.
On the recent Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) searches in the premises of former minister K N Nehru, he said the DMK was prepared to face the cases legally.
