Chennai: The next campaign meeting of Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay would be held on December 18, Thursday, between 11 am and 1 pm, at Perundurai in Erode district as party had fulfilled all the 84 conditions laid down by the police, TVK’s chief coordinator of the high level administrative committee, said on Friday.

After visiting the meeting site near Vijayamangalam toll gate and close to the national highway, Sengottaiyan told the media that the meeting would be organized without any hitch. Since many political meetings have been held on the same site, the police have cleared the meeting after imposing 84 conditions.

The meeting would be organized at a 10 acre land with adequate space and it would be the second outdoor event of the party after the stampede at Karur on September 27 that suddenly cut short the plans to hold a series of roadside meetings that would be addressed by Vijay from atop a specially designed bus.

So, after the Karur tragedy, since there was a delay in the State Government coming out with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for political rallies, as instructed by the court, Vijay took his campaign meetings indoors by addressing a select crowd of 2000 people at a private engineering college auditorium in November before holding the Puducherry meeting on December 9.

Now, the series of campaign meetings in public places in the State is being revived with the Perundurai event to continue the party’ outreach programme ahead of the elections.

The meeting would be the first event organised by K A Sengottaiyan, who joined the TVK on November 27. The veteran leader's entry into the party is expected to give the party the much required organisational skills that its present leadership seemingly lacked.
