TVK Gears Up To Brace Future Elections
The meeting was to prepare the office-bearers to the future realities of electoral politics in the State as many of them might not be aware of dynamics of the fights at the grassroots level and strategies to be adopted to win them.
Chennai: In a bid to prepare the party cadre to face the future electoral battles in the State, the ruling TVK organized a long drawn out interaction with office-bearers at the party headquarters in Panaiyur in Chennai on Tuesday, which marked the second anniversary of the maiden conference of the party at Vikravandi in 2004.
General Secretary and State Minister N Anand, who addressed the participants of the meeting that went on into the small hours of Wednesday, drove home the point that winning the next five by-elections to the Assembly and the subsequent ones to the local bodies were of paramount importance to the party’s future and the present government.
Anand cautioned the old timers of the party, particularly those who were in the organization since its inception and those who graduated from the erstwhile fans club of actor Vijay to become full-fledged members of the party not hold in grouse against newcomers who might be given tickets in the coming elections.
Since members of other parties and organisations had joined the TVK in droves at the grassroots level, Anand told the office-bearers that some of them who might have held posts in the local parties as representatives of other parties would be aspiring for position as TVK representatives.
Stressing on the importance of respecting the aspirations of the new-comers and to make use of their political experience and popularity among the people for the benefit of the TVK, the party might field them in future elections with the growth of the party in mind.
Urging the party cadre to remain united and give priority to the party’s interest and future in mind, he cautioned them against having grouses against new-comers and ruining the prospects of the party in the election.
Apart from the five by-elections to the Assembly – four of them fell vacant after newcomers to the party resigned their elected post and one is to fill the seat that was vacated by Vijay as he had won from both the constituencies he contested from – the meeting spoke about the local body polls that would also follow.
While the defectors to the TVK would be nominated for the Assembly by-election, the local body polls, those to the other polls starting from the panchayats to the Corporations, would see newcomers to the party having clout and popularity among the masses would be nominated, it was told.
The meeting was to prepare the office-bearers to the future realities of electoral politics in the State as many of them might not be aware of dynamics of the fights at the grassroots level and strategies to be adopted to win them.
Co opting experienced politicians at the grassroots level was pertinent for also popularising the party and gaining news supporters.
