The department asked the staff to monitor the operations for heavy crowds, long wait times, delay and other service defects and take immediate action to rectify them.
Chennai: Transport department on Monday issued guidelines for the ‘Vetri Payanam’ scheme asking the bus crew to operate the buses at the scheduled time-table on the specific routes and to stop the buses at all the bus stops and providing sufficient time for passengers to board the vehicle.
The department asked the staff to monitor the operations for heavy crowds, long wait times, delay and other service defects and take immediate action to rectify them. The buses should be maintained in a working condition and the bus crew should make arrangements for alternative buses when necessary.
The bus crew and officials are asked to avoid problems such as ‘not run, late run, curtailment and route diversion’, the guidelines noted and stressed on operating the buses as per schedule during peak hours in the morning and evening.
The officials were instructed to register the complaints related to the scheme and monitor them. The complaints should not be closed without taking action, the department said. All the guidelines should be displayed in boards for the transport staff and an action taken report should be submitted on the enforcement of the guidelines. A route master for the routes coming under the scheme should be prepared and a sufficient number of electronic ticketing machines should be allocated to issue ‘zero tickets’. The words ‘Vetri Payanam’ should be digitally displayed or stickers should be pasted on the buses, the guidelines said, adding zero tickets should be given mandatorily.
