TN Cops Seek Transfer Of Suitcase, Body Parts In Guduvanchery Murder Case From Agra

CHENNAI: The Guduvanchery police, investigating the gruesome murder of a 38-year-old woman, have sought the immediate transfer of a suitcase containing her severed body parts, which was recovered from a Tamil Nadu Express train in Agra, to Chennai for further investigation and DNA analysis.

The request has been made through the Tambaram city police commissionerate to senior officials of the Agra city police commissionerate and Agra railway police.

The victim, identified as Nisha, a woman from north India working at a private company in Tambaram and living in a rented house in Guduvanchery, was allegedly murdered on August 3.

Police arrested her alleged killers, Manik Uddin Laskar, 22, and his wife, Bagamathi Maji, 20, in Manipur. following investigation by a special team from the Guduvanchery police.

According to the police, the accused allegedly dismembered Nisha’s body and packed some of the body parts in a red suitcase before placing it on a Tamil Nadu Express train. The suitcase was subsequently detected by railway police in Agra, where the body parts were removed and kept under safe custody at a government hospital.

The couple was brought to Guduvanchery for questioning after their arrest. During their six-day police custody, investigators took them to the house where the murder allegedly took place and made them reconstruct the sequence of events. The reconstruction was videographed by the police.

Police also seized weapons allegedly used in the crime, including a pair of scissors and a large meat-cutting knife.

As part of the investigation, the accused were taken to Chennai Central railway station and made to recreate how they allegedly carried the suitcase onto the Tamil Nadu Express and placed it inside the train before getting off. This reconstruction was also recorded on video.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly told police that they murdered Nisha after she became pregnant as a result of an alleged extramarital relationship. They also reportedly told investigators that they had watched videos on YouTube to learn how to carry out the murder.

However, the victim’s head has not yet been recovered despite searches conducted by the police in the days following the murder.

After completing their custodial interrogation, the accused were taken to Chengalpet district government hospital for medical examination and, subsequently, produced before the Chengalpet mahila court. The court remanded them in judicial custody until September 16.

The police intend to examine the body parts and conduct DNA analysis as part of the investigation. The red suitcase in which the body parts were transported is also considered a crucial piece of evidence and will have to be produced before the court as part of the case records.

In their urgent communication, the Guduvanchery police have requested the Agra authorities to hand over the suitcase and the preserved body parts to the investigating team in Tamil Nadu.

The body parts were recovered by the Agra railway police after the suitcase arrived on the Tamil Nadu Express and have since been kept safely at a government hospital in Agra.

Following the request from the Tambaram city police commissionerate, arrangements are being made to bring the suitcase and the preserved body parts to Chennai and hand them over to the Guduvanchery special police team.
