Tiruchy: The Desiya Thenindhiya Nathigal Inaippu Vivasayigal Sangam has expressed concern over the Karnataka government not releasing the Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu, despite the Supreme Court's direction. It said the adamance has led to the farmers of the delta region unable to undertake Kuruvai and Samba cultivation.

Sangam president P. Ayyakannu said at Tiruchy on Sunday that the Tamil Nadu government should file a lawsuit in the Supreme Court seeking Rs 1 lakh crore as compensation from the Karnataka and Central governments, and distribute Rs 50,000 per acre to the farmers of the Delta districts.

He said the Karnataka government should not be allowed to construct the dam at Mekedatu, a check dam should be built every 10 kilometers along the Cauvery-Kollidam river, and the Union government must provide assistance to link the Godavari and Cauvery rivers.
