Chennai: DMK president and former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Sunday denied the allegations of his party trying to join hands with the AIADMK to form a government as ‘canard' and asked the people in Madhuranthagam and Dharapuram to defeat the TVK candidates to teach a lesson to ‘the party’s arrogance and the betrayal of the candidates’.

In a statement here, Stalin said the TVK is trying to deceive the people by telling a false story that the DMK and AIADMK tried to form an alliance. The by-poll is a result of the ruling party candidate’s betrayal of the party (AIADMK) which was the basis for their growth, he said.

The two constituencies are facing by-polls just four months after the Assembly elections. The other MLAs are carrying out the work needed for their constituencies but the candidates elected by the people have come back to seek your votes again. Their action did not have any fairness, honesty and people’s welfare, he said and asked the people to teach a lesson to the ruling party’s arrogance and the betrayal of their candidates to stop the re-occurrence of such unfair acts. He asked the people to see their electricity bills and provisional store bills before going for voting.

Countering the statements of the two TVK candidates that they could work for the constituency only if they are with the ruling party, the DMK leader said all the opposition party MLAs would resign and join the ruling party if it is true. “They are trying to deceive you (the people) since you do not know that constituencies of opposition MLAs could not be ignored”. The Chief Minister and other ministers did not speak about the fulfilment of their election promises like providing Rs. 2,500 per month or six cylinders every year, he added.
