Chennai: Chief Minister M K Stalin called on party veteran S M Ramachandran, who turned 100 years recently, at his home on Saturday along with other party leaders and wished him a long life.

Ramachandran, who was elected to the State Assembly from the Anna Nagar constituency in 1984 had served as the regional secretary of the DMK for three decades and had campaigned hard for the victory of leaders like M Karunanidhi and K Anbazhagan when they contested from the constituency.

Later in a message on X, Stalin said he conveyed his birthday greetings to the party’s guide and described him as an embodiment of hard work.

Born in the Arni area of Tiruvannamalai district, Ramachandran settled down in Chennai, where he started life by setting up a tea shop, he said.

Drawn by the Dravidian ideology, he became an active member of the DMK and was imprisoned during Emergency, he said.
