SSTA Withdraws Strike

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Secondary Grade Seniority Teachers Association (SSTA), whose members were on a long strike demanding ‘Equal Pay for Equal Work’ called off their agitation on Saturday following a request from State Minister for School Education Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi who assured of implementing the report of the three-member committee formed to set right the pay anomalies.
State general secretary of SSTA, J Robert, in a statement said that based on the goodwill that the government led by M K Stalin would look into their grievances, they were postponing the protest. The SSTA was concerned about the health of the protesting teachers and also the education of the students, the statement said.
Earlier, Poyyamozhi had issued a statement requesting the 5781 secondary school teachers who were on strike to return to their teaching jobs by placing faith in the Chief Minister and in the interest of the students.
