Chennai: Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Ltd (TNGECL), which is taking all measures to promote Renewable Energy, particularly Rooftop Solar sector, will launch a software tool named as ‘Rooftop Solar Explorer,’ to speed up the promotion of solar Rooftop and to issue feasibility approval without delay.

The software tool has been developed by utilizing data of consumers and the raw drone image of buildings of Chennai Corporation area by M/s CSTEP, on the basis of a tripartite MoU entered between M/s. Center for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP), M/s. Asar Social Impact Advisors (Asar) and TNGECL (erstwhile TANGEDCO).

To be launched by State Minister for Transport and Electricity, S S Sivasankar, the tool would help consumers access the solar capacity by the touch of a button and initiate solar plant capacity activities and also help DISCOM to issue feasibility reports without field inspection, an official press release said on Friday.

At present, consumers are applying for solar rooftop installation through Online Portal of Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TNPDCL), which issues feasibility approval through the portal after conducting a field level inspection in person.

Tamil Nadu currently ranks fourth in India in terms of renewable energy capacity addition and the State's policy and vision aim to achieve 50% of total energy consumption from renewable energy sources by 2030.
