Sengottaiyan Ducks Question on Vijay as PM Candidate
Responding to the question, the minister said Vijay was leading Tamil Nadu with a focus on development and wanted the state to make progress across all sectors.
Chennai:Revenue minister K.A. Sengottaiyan on Friday avoided directly responding to questions on whether Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay could be projected as a candidate for prime minister, telling mediapersons at Chennai airport not to “get me into trouble” with the question.
Sengottaiyan was speaking to mediapersons at the Chennai airport before leaving for Coimbatore when he was asked about demands from members of the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), including ministers, to project Vijay as the prime ministerial candidate.
Responding to the question, the minister said Vijay was leading Tamil Nadu with a focus on development and wanted the state to make progress across all sectors.
“He is the Chief Minister leading Tamil Nadu towards greater progress. His sole objective and thought is that Tamil Nadu should advance in all sectors and serve as a guide for the entire country,” Sengottaiyan said.
He was then asked about the Congress opposing the proposal to project Vijay as the prime ministerial candidate and maintaining that Rahul Gandhi should be the prime ministerial candidate.
“I have clearly explained what the Chief Minister’s thoughts are. Please don’t ask another question and get me into trouble,” Sengottaiyan replied.
The minister then declined to answer further questions and left.
His remarks come amid growing political discussion within the ruling TVK over projecting Vijay beyond Tamil Nadu and positioning him as a potential national leader.
