Portrait of V.S. Ramalingam Unveiled at Thanjavur

Thanajavur:Proficiency in English language is necessary for advocates to argue cases in the Supreme Court, said Justice A.T. Jagadeesh Chandra of the Madras High Court, here on Saturday.
Justice Chandra unveiled a portrait of late V.S. Ramalingam, a senior advocate of Thanjavur, at a function organised by the Bar Association of Thanjavur. He recalled VSR's leadership, pursuit of knowledge, friendliness and adherence to principles and ethics.
Justice Chandra cited the example of Nagamuthu, an advocate from Thanjavur, who rose to the level of judge of the Supreme Court, because of his knowledge and proficiency in English. "I agree that Tamil should be the court language in Tamil Nadu. At the same time English is also necessary. I agree with Annadurai's two language policy," he said.
Justice Akbar Ali released a book on VSR. K. Vaidyalingam, senior advocate, presided. M.Ramachandran, former MLA, Velu Karthikeyan, administrative committee member of Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, and advocates M.R.R.S ubramanian, Nalladurai, P. Vadivel, and C. Jayachandran participated.
V. Jeevakumar, president of Thanjavur Bar Association, proposed a vote of thanks.
