Only Seat Adjustment With DMK, Not Responsible For Their Corrupt Activities: Veerapandian
CPI state secretary M. Veerapandian on Tuesday said his party did not want to topple the TVK government, but the Left parties would stand for the working people.
Chennai: CPI state secretary M. Veerapandian on Tuesday said his party did not want to topple the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) government, but the Left parties would stand for the working people. The Communists only had a seat adjustment with the DMK and could not be held responsible for the government’s corrupt activities, he said.
Veerapandian, addressing the media at Maduranthagam said the CPI decided to support the TVK government from outside, and when it wanted to withdraw support, the party would take the decision. The CPI is not in alliance with the TVK, and it did not want to impose compulsions on the government, he said.
He was responding to remarks by TVK minister Aadhav Arjuna, who indirectly questioned the silence of the Left parties when charges of corruption were raised against the DMK government. Veerapandian said the Communist parties only had a seat adjustment with the DMK and could not be held responsible for the corrupt activities of the party. He said the Communists were not charged with corruption in their history and Aadhav Arjuna should read the history. None of the Communist leaders was punished under corruption charges, he asserted.
The CPI leader said the TVK should be firm in secularism and upholding the interests of the working people. When the TVK government failed to do so, the CPI would raise its voice and protest, he added. Responding to a question, he said the CPI would take an appropriate decision if the TVK crossed secularism and moved towards the Union BJP government.
