Korean Delegation Calls on CM

The delegation explained the progress made in the project and reaffirmed HD KSOE’s keen interest in completing the project at the earliest

Chennai: Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay discussed the progress of the Rs 38,000 crore Greenfield shipbuilding cluster, proposed to be set up at Thoothukudi by HD Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), with a high-level delegation from the company, led by its global business director Young Hoon Kwon on Wednesday.

An official press release said HD KSOE, one of world’s largest shipbuilder had signed a MoU with the State government for constructing the state-of-art shipbuilding cluster, which was expected to generate 15,000 direct jobs, besides creating a significant multiplier effect through ancillary units and local supply chain.

The National Shipbuilding and Heavy Industries Park Tamil Nadu Limited (NSHIPTN) has been formed between SIPCOT and VOC Port Authority (VOCPA) for undertaking the project and the first in-principle approval for the establishment of a greenfield shipbuilding cluster by the Directorate General of Shipping.

The Chief Minister, during the meeting with the Korean delegation, reaffirmed Tamil Nadu's commitment to facilitate the establishment of the strategic project in Thoothukudi on time and assured the delegation of proactive institutional support at every stage of implementation.

On its part, the delegation explained the progress made in the project and reaffirmed HD KSOE’s keen interest in completing the project at the earliest, the release said.
