iPhone Exports From India to the US Double in H1 2025

Chennai: Despite the trade uncertainties and US President Donald Trump’s disapproval of Apple increasing production in India, iPhone exports from India to the US doubled in the first half of the calendar year. Global iPhone exports reported a 53 per cent jump in H1 2025 against the same period last year.

India exported a total of 23.9 million iPhones in the January-June period, which was 53 per cent higher than 15.6 million in H1 2024. Of this, 78 per cent of the iPhone shipments or 18.6 million units went to the United States. In the same period of last year, the US accounted for 53 per cent or 8.26 million of 15.6 million shipments.

In June, 88 per cent of iPhones manufactured in India went to the US. In the same period last year, this number was just 46 per cent, as per the data from Canalys.

Between January and April 2025 India had exported 11.5 million iPhones to the US, as per an earlier report of Canalys. Though Donald Trump told Apple CEO Tim Cook in May that he does not want the company to build its units in India, in the last two months 12.4 million were shipped.

Apart from the US, India has been shipping iPhones to the UK, Italy, Netherlands and Czech Republic.

The bulk of India-made iPhones are assembled at Foxconn Technology Group’s factory. Tata Electronics, which had bought Wistron Corp.’s local business and runs Pegatron Corp.’s operations in India, too is a key supplier. Apple assembled $22 billion worth of iPhones in India in FY25.

Tata Electronics commenced iPhone assembly operations, including that of iPhone 16 and iPhone 16e models, at its Hosur facility in the first half of the year. Tata is also planning to increase the assembly lines in the facility.

As per reports, the US iPhone demand is around 20 million units per quarter. China is another producer of iPhones.
