Hashish Worth Rs 17 Cr Seized in Thoothukudi, Four Arrested
After preliminary interrogation, the Q- branch handed over the contraband and the arrested men to the Narcotics Intelligence Bureau for further investigation
Thoothukudi: The Q-branch police here have seized 17 kg of hashish, valued at around Rs 17 crore in the international market. Four persons were also arrested in this connection.
Acting on a tip-off that hashish was being smuggled to Maldives through the Thoothukudi coast on Sunday night, the Q- branch personnel intensified surveillance and conducted vehicle checking at Boopalarayapuram near Thoothukudi, when they found a halwa-like substance neatly packed in a car.
Inquiry with the persons in the car revealed that it was hashish, a narcotic drug made from ganja, and the sleuths seized the contraband weighing around 17 kg and valued at Rs 17 crore in the international drug market. The drug brought by road to Thoothukudi from Keralam was headed to Maldives.
The police arrested four persons Reniston (53), Rosario (40), Chermadurai (45) and Antony Lipidus (35) of Tsunami colony, Thoothukudi.
