General Devotees Issued 2,000 Passes for Madurai Kumbabhishekam

MADURAI: General devotees have also been issued passes among the total 9,000 passes issued for the consecration of the Meenakshi Amman temple here scheduled for Thursday, minister Nirmal Kumar said on Wednesday.
Of the 9,000 passes, 2,000 have been allotted to general devotees, who would be allowed access to the temple terrace to witness the consecration. Responding to complaints that some state ministers, including himself, had intervened in the issuance of the passes, Nirmal Kumar said he had not interfered in the process.
Further clarifying the reasons for ordering the closure of commercial establishments on Keelamasi Street for two days from September 16, Nirmal Kumar said the move was aimed at preventing crowding and ensuring free movement of devotees. He said the restrictions were aimed at ensuring the smooth movement of devotees without inconvenience and stated that a multi-department team had been formed to coordinate the preparations.
On the allegations that the temple trustees were deliberately ignored, Nirmal Kumar denied it, stating that they had not been prevented from discharging any of their responsibilities and that their requirements would be addressed through discussions.
