Chennai: AIADMK general secretary Eadppadi K Palaniswami hit out at State Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu by telling him not to take classes on loan limits and financial management when the DMK government had emerged as the biggest borrower in the country.

The loans that the State had taken during the AIADMK regime were well within the limit of 25 per cent of the GDP but had now, under the DMK rule, crossed 26 per cent of the GDP, Palaniswami said in a statement on Monday, replying to the long statement of the Finance Minister.

A good financial administration should limit financial deficit, remove revenue deficit completely, restrict borrowing and utilize loans for capital investment was the advice that the leaders of the DMK, when they were occupying the opposition benches, gave to the AIADMK government, Palaniswami recalled.

But now due to bad financial management, the State had become the highest borrower in the country and instead of correcting its ways the Finance Minister was taking classes for the AIADMK, he said, giving details on the loans taken by the present government.

Palaniswami accused the DMK of taking the people for a ride by giving a promise of better management of the State’s finances during the elections and now plunging the State in debts.
