DMK Plans to Give Rs. 5K per Vote in Madhuranthagam: Aadhav Arjuna

Chennai: PWD minister Aadhav Arjuna charged the DMK with planning to distribute Rs. 5,000 for each vote in the Madhuranthagam Assembly constituency which goes to polls on October 6. He asked the people to take the money as it would be useful for Deepavali expenses but vote for the ‘Whistle’ symbol.
Addressing the election work committee meeting in Madhuranthagam, he said the DMK would not win even if they distribute Rs 10,000 for each vote since the culture of winning elections by paying cash had been eradicated by the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) in the 2026 Assembly elections.
After 1967 when DMK founder C.N. Annadurai won the Assembly elections without paying money, it was the TVK which repeated the achievement in the 2026 Assembly elections. Earlier, only persons who could spend at least Rs. 30 crore alone could become an MLA or their family members should be in important party posts. The TVK had made ordinary persons into legislators, he said.
Aadhav Arjuna asserted that the TVK would not pay a single rupee for vote and wipe out money power from elections. Former minister E.V. Velu had come to Madhuranthagam with a cash box and he would give Rs. 5,000 to each vote. The people could take the money to use it for Deepavali expenses but they should vote for the ‘Whistle’ symbol, he added.
