Chennai: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MLAs on Tuesday walked out of the Tamil Nadu Assembly after Chief Minister Vijay targeted the Opposition while addressing the House.

CM Vijay accused Opposition leaders of engaging in "blame-game politics" and criticised previous governments over corruption allegations amid sloganeering by DMK legislators.

As the House witnessed repeated disruptions, Speaker JCD Prabhakar and members of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) urged DMK MLAs to allow the Chief Minister to complete his speech.

The DMK has accused the TVK of "horse-trading" after Secular Progressive Alliance partners, including Congress and CPI(M), aligned with the ruling camp. Vijay, however, maintained that CPI(M) and the Indian Union Muslim League had made their decisions independently.

Addressing the House during the Motion of Thanks to the Governor's Address, Vijay said the Opposition's allegations were contradictory.

"They say secular parties are part of the government and claim that we brought them in. At the same time, they say CPI(M) and the Indian Union Muslim League made their own independent decisions," he said.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the importance of maintaining law and order and said his government would take strict action against crimes targeting women and the growing drug menace.

"There can be no difference of opinion on maintaining law and order. We will not tolerate harm to women. We are taking action against drug abuse and will continue to do so. This is not a new issue; it has existed for years," Vijay said.

Targeting the previous government led by M.K. Stalin, Vijay pointed to the absence of a Director General of Police (DGP) and questioned why the drug problem had not been effectively addressed earlier.

"People repeatedly raised concerns about the absence of a DGP. It is only under our government that a DGP has now been appointed. Drug abuse increased over the years. Who was responsible then? The answer lies with their own conscience," he said.

Vijay further said that democracy allows questions to be raised in the Assembly but stressed that criticism should be fair and balanced.

"If administrative efficiency means intimidating people, silencing them and engaging in corruption, our government will certainly not do that," he added.

The Chief Minister also vowed to pursue corruption cases and said the TVK government would not spare those found guilty.

"We will never loot public money. Every corruption case that comes to light will be pursued, and we will not spare anyone involved," Vijay said.

Amid the uproar, Speaker JCD Prabhakar assured Opposition members that they would be given an opportunity to respond after the Chief Minister's speech.

"The Opposition Leader will be given a proper opportunity to respond. Please remain calm," the Speaker said.

Vijay concluded his address with a cinematic gesture after receiving permission from the Speaker.
