DMK Humiliated Allies, Drove Them out of Alliance: Thirumavalavan

Chennai: Countering DMK’s persistent attacks on leaving the alliance and joining the TVK alliance, VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan and MDMK principal secretary Durai Vaiko hit back saying the DMK’s ill-treatment during the seat-sharing negotiations split the alliance.

Thirumavalavan who was frequently attacked by leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi as ‘sofavalavan’ in an indirect allegation for many months finally responded saying how the DMK allotted ten seats to the DMDK which supporting the BJP on many issues and was in alliance with the saffron party for a long time. He asked why the MDMK was forced to contest on the DMK symbol and given only four seats while Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Neethi Maiyam was not given a single seat.

He said the DMK was the reason for the quitting of its allies from the alliance after the 2026 Assembly elections. The DMK did not have the capability to preserve the cordiality and friendship of the allies leading to the quitting of the alliance parties, he said.

Durai Vaiko who echoed Thirumavalavan’s views at a meeting in Pudukottai said the DMK put pressure on Thirumavalavan not to contest in Kattumannarkoil. He said the DMK ill-treated the MDMK, VCK, Congress and the Left parties. The DMK intervened in the candidate selection of the Congress party.

After the AIADMK’s inception in 1972, the DMK had captured power in 1989, 1996, 2006 and 2021. In all the three elections, the party formed strong alliances to win the elections. After the 2026 Assembly polls, the allies including the Congress, MDMK, VCK and IUML had joined the TVK’s Secular Social Justice Vetri Alliance. The parties had joined the TVK government also while the Left parties were continuing their support for the government from outside.
