Crackdown on Errant Tourist Cabs in Nilgiris
The transport department officials seized 10 tourist cabs found to be in operation without paying the proper taxes
Ooty: In a crackdown against erring tourist cab operators in the Nilgiris, the regional transport office officials here seized 10 tourist cabs for non-payment of taxes and violating norms for operating tourist cabs in the Nilgiris.
While the Nilgiris, a stellar tourist destination, had been witnessing operation of hundreds of tourist cabs and tourist vehicles, the transport department laid down several rules and norms for their operations to ensure tourist safety.
During the recent raids on tourist cabs and tourist vehicles, the transport department officials seized 10 tourist cabs found to be in operation without paying the proper taxes and not following other norms for operation of tourist cabs in the Nilgiris.
The transport department officials imposed a total fine of Rs. 1.38 lakh on the errant tourist vehicles. The transport department officials said this type of surprise raids will continue in future to book tourist cabs being operated without adhering to norms.
