Conduct Special Camps to Include Those Left Out From Poll Rolls: MMK
The arrest of political leaders, restrictions on public movement, and barricades in major commercial areas leading to closure of shops are not conducive to a democracy, M.H. Jawahirullah said
Tiruchy: M.H. Jawahirullah, president of the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi, wanted that all the SIR amendments carried out under the leadership of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar should be withdrawn and special camps should be conducted immediately to include the names of those left out.
He told media persons at Tiruchy on Monday that the Central BJP government has created a massive crisis situation in Delhi. The arrest of political leaders, restrictions on public movement, and barricades in major commercial areas leading to closure of shops are not conducive to a democracy. The actions of the Central government are detrimental to freedom of expression and democratic rights. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah should take responsibility for this, he said.
He said Gyanesh Kumar, who is supposed to function independently, is acting according to the wishes of the ruling party. Protests are taking place across the country and arrests of political leaders is condemnable. Gyanesh Kumar should be removed from office, he added.
He said due to inadequate availability of Cauvery water, agriculture has been severely affected in the Cauvery basin districts, including Tiruchirappalli, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, and Nagapattinam. While farmers are already deeply distressed, the plan to stop the release of water from Mettur Dam by Oct. 15 will cause further hardships to them. Therefore, the Tamil Nadu government should reconsider its decision to halt water release and take immediate steps to continue releasing water from the Mettur Dam, he added.
