CM Vijay Announces Extension of Free Bus Travel for Differently-abled
CM Vijay said scooters with a low height fitted with specially designed wheels would be distributed to differently-abled persons whose legs were affected but hands are functioning well.
Chennai: Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay who is also the minister for the Differently-abled Welfare on Monday announced the extension of free bus pass scheme for the differently abled in ordinary buses to all the buses except air conditioned ones.
While replying to the discussion on demands for grants to the ministry, the Chief Minister said the free bus scheme for the differently-abled with a helper in ordinary buses would be extended to the Express, LSS and deluxe buses except air-conditioned buses, the minister announced.
He said scooters with a low height fitted with specially designed wheels would be distributed to differently-abled persons whose legs were affected but hands are functioning well. This would help the differently-abled persons whose legs are affected to travel for their education and jobs.
The Chief Minister announced the setting up of homes for the mentally challenged in ten districts for the benefit of 500 persons. Homes with facilities for occupational training would be set up in ten districts for the benefit of 400 persons. For the differently-abled persons whose spinal cord is affected, two more homes would be set up, Joseph Vijay said, adding six primary training centres for differently-abled children would be set up.
